I cannot believe that, to this day, there are so many people who still misinterpret this song. It's a first person narrative - the writer, Randy Newman, worte the song from the perspective of someone who was prejudiced, as a commentary on prejudice in general. The lyrics do not reflect Newman's beliefs, or those of James Coco who was simply covering the song.
