You can brew coffee using a Moccamaster filter cone holder and operating it by hand.

The cone was designed to be used as a part of a larger coffeer dripper machine. However, the rectangular bottom design allows it to stand all by it's own. The drip stop mechanism is powered by a small spring, which seems to make it quite realiable. Water won't come out even if you tilt or shake the cone. The release lever can be operated by hand. I suppose you could burn your fingers if you're not careful though.

This was my first brew with the Moccamaster cone. I used a 3 minute brew time. Using the drip stop release lever, I filled the first cup quite easily. The second cup took a bit longer to fill, as I was trying to get out as much coffee as possible. In the end it seems that I spent about a minute too long only to gain a few more drops of coffee.

Compared to a press pot, the brewed coffee had a cleared and smoother taste. The pre-washed paper filter did a great job preventing coffee grounds from entering the cups.
