  • The best way to fix a leak is to remove all the old caulking ,clean it up with laquer thinner, apply proffesional caulking (tremco) . This procedure should last about 10 years. The reason is that the Tremco stays flexible throughout that time,of course once it really hardens the seal will cracK again because of the expandtion & contraction process which takes place bettween Summer & Winter. Tar,Poxies,Silicones are a totally a no,no .We make a lot of money on people who try dumb things.

  • @bertscafe Or you can follow the instructions in my video and use the sealant recommended by the gutter manufacturer. Just saying.....

  • roofing cement works best on any gutter and works alright in wet conditions as well. Apply a generous amount on the leaky area and your problems will vanish. It's also a lot cheaper than those specialty glues and adhesives.

  • It's cheaper for a reason. It's not a permanent fix by any means.

  • Aluminum gutter seal in a tube works. Anything that has elasticity to it. The law of expansion and contraction doesn't effect it.

  • That's not entirely true. The aluminum gutter seal will fail at some point - it can only expand so much. But it's failure point is far beyond the expansion of a normal gutter.

  • @Chukwudebe thats what i use.

  • WIsh I had read this 3-4 years ago. I used that paint on sealer - stopped working this spring.

  • Very crisply explained. Thank you very much for sharing this video.

  • solar seal is the best

  • if you don't know what exactly to use then use neutral silicone or better yet some polyurethane sealant. no mess, tiny amounts and it's flexible and durable enough to survive at least three years. and also cheaper

  • I really like how you answer comments, Thank you.

  • Silicone for gutters, just doesn't work. One nice thing about it, when it fails a year later you can rip it out in one long strip.

  • I use a heat gun to warm the area up after it's washed to make sure the moisture is out from both the surface and the lap and if doing this during cool weather it helps the sealer to adhere better and you can warm the sealer a bit from the outside of the gutter (not too close you'll burn the paint) and it causes to to start curing better especially if the outdoor temp is below 70 at night.
