Red EV1 shows the controller and electronics have been gutted, but the motor is still intact.

As Mr. Robinson states, this was not crushed by GM, but it was surely gutted, stuffed and mounted, no batteries an inoperative, with no way to procure the missing controller.

And, of course, the enmity of GM, their hatred of all-electric transportation, and their intended interference with the fully restored versions.

  • its GM not GMC thats one of GM's car brands. and did he say mesquite as in mesquite texas i may have miss heard also how did he get a hold of one. oh to add on to this comment wasnt the GM ev1 introed in 1997 and killed in 2000.

  • Actually, there were two flavors of EV1, the lead-acid was confiscated in 1999 and some were re-leased for 2 years, refitted with PSB lead-acid that never failed.

The NiMH was built in 1998, but not offered until Dec., 1999, on 3-year leases.

  • why would they do that? its not like people can say, hey there's one of those ev1's, i must go down to gm and order one! gm should be happy for people to play and perfect in this field.you cant give a present with conditions...but as everyone knows, if they ever admitted that this was a clean product, they are pretty much saying that their core product is dirty! (which it is)

  • Absolutely right. There is no reason for GM to order these gutted EV1 not to be restored, and not to be driven, except that GM wants to erase the memory of real EVs that worked. Hence, GM is not being honest about its newfound 'green' wash.

  • what would happen if this car, magicaly got stolen...

AC drive controllers are avalable, and as for batterys.. thats not an issue.. lipo's will really make this rip..

  • Someone restored an EV1; but GM threatened, supposedly, to confiscate and crush it (the WWU EV1). So it's really GM that's the liar and cheat.

  • I can tell you EXACTLY why GM doesnt want these cars restored. The reason they destroyed them, was to make people forget they ever existed. GM either doesnt want to loose money in EV's (because most of a car companies revanue, is replacement engine or drivetrain parts, which the ev1 would never need) They want to make us believe that these cars sucked, and they did us a service by taking them off the market, and that there was no need for them. They are liars. We should boycott all GM products.

  • EV 1 has or had 120 miles the Volt has only 40 miles range !??

SO GM NO BAIL OUT FOR YOU ! DO 200 miles evs and then get the bail out !
