@DoovieMIK. No, I am not taking about distorting the investment incentives for receiving sides but for the passing down side. Knowing that a huge chunk of money would go to the state, rich parents would move assets and rich investment opportunities out of the US or simply invest less just like income taxes distortion: look at Europe's working hours for example.

Thats ridiculous Inheritance tax is a one off payment that the goverment takes before some entitled child gets their mommy or daddy's money. You only work for inheritance by getting into or staying in someones good graces.

THERE IS A MAJOR DISTINCTION BETWEEN INHERITANCE AND LOTTERY IN TERMS OF ECONOMIC INCENTIVES AND PRODUCTIVITY! Higher inheritance tax weakens incentives for those in the top bracket to invest. Investment, unlike gambling, is crucial to small businesses and prospect of middle class that democrats so wanting to defend.

We like to think of our society as individuals and that's true in most cases but it's really made up of families. I've never understood it but if you ask 100 working people what their main motivation is to be successful 90 say to provide a better life for my children's future. An inheritance tax would encourage spending money (not investing) on frivolous entertainment or any other way to make sure the government doesn't get their life savings. Do gooder's that ruin the country can't see reason.
