Sandy Becker - Soupy Sales - Fred Scott Interview - Part 3

The kid shows were piped in like utilities: you turned on the set just about any time a kid would want to watch TV, and there these guys were. For many of us, the great Sandy Becker WAS New York TV. Fred Scott read the news following his kids show; once he forgot who he was talking to and said, "This is the Channel 5 News, Uncle Fred Scott reporting."

Sadly, I only knew Fred Scott as the emcee of the last season or two of "Creature Features" (Sat nights, 8:30-10PM). And, he was positively _spooky_ with that deep, resonant voice...and the way he dressed.*

*Gray pants, blue blazer, and white turtleneck? Shudders! ;-)

I was a big fan of Fred, Sandy, and Soupy-- I don't think we'll see their like these days because the television medium has changed. Even if the shows were live, we'd look at them differently.

I didn't see him, but it was the day at Kleins Soupy mentions here. There were people out to see him as far as the eye could see, and we heard that a riot had broken out and so Soupy wasn't going to show. There were kids running around with pies they bought at the local bakery to throw at him, I swear, people were nuts and everyone was so charged up...so funny he mentions it. Soupy was God to us kids everybody loved him - and ate what he had for lunch on the show...the coolest guy ever.

It's great to reminince about the old shows but their likes will not be seen again. I remember watching Soupy Sales and he was great. Lets have a big white hand, a little growl, and White Fang hello. Thanks for sharing.

I am 54 years old born & raised in N Y City and this brought back so many memories also. Just great to see this. This type of thing is what utube is all about. Thanks so much for putting this up ! I lovewd the mouse and especially when white fang hit Soupy Sales with a pie when Soupy tried to con him ! LOL !!!!! Remember that ? b LOL!!!!!
