Led by Ara Parseghian, future College Football Hall of Fame member and All-American Ron Burton, All-American Andy Cvercko, and quarterback Dick Thornton, the 1958 Northwestern Wildcats defeated Washington State, Stanford, Minnesota, Michigan, and Ohio State before succumbing to injuries and finishing the season 5-4.
A 55-24 blowout of the Michigan Wolverines in Evanston gave NU a 4-0 record to start the season and the 8th spot in the AP polls. Two weeks later, a 21-0 shutout of then #3 Ohio State at Dyche Stadium in front of 51,102 on homecoming not only ended the Buckeyes' 14-game winning streak, it also propelled NU to #4 in the rankings.
The Michigan game was 43-0 at halftime.
