As a self-proclaimed writer (since I do enjoy writing stories and working with words), I struggle with the actual act of writing. It sounds ironic, but I find more often than not that I need to force myself to write, instead of perpetually putting it off.

For my class this semester RPW 300 (formerly ENGL 300) Writing In The Professions, we were given the assignment of making a movie project. For this video project I used Windows Movie Maker. The criteria of the assignment was to use multiple images/clips/videos, multiple quotes/references, multiple music sources, multiple layers/filters/transitions/effects, and it had to be multiple minutes long. The theme or scope of the content was more student-focused. We got to talk about our profession, some issue in reference to our profession, or how the field of 'rhetoric and professional writing' can speak to our career path.

So as a Creative Writer, I've been doing some digging into the work of Paul Miller (aka DJ Spooky that Subliminal Kid). I love stories, I love writing, and I love working with music (whether it's arranging songs in a playlist, or the actual composing of them). There's something about the "juxtaposition between radically different materials" (as DJ Spooky puts it) that fascinates me. And I find that my career path is leaning towards that of a DJ, or similarly -- a MC (hence the nickname "MC Zephy").

Through my growth as a writer, I've also been encouraged by the work of a Canadian musician, Lights Poxleitner. The way she approaches music, and the emotional situations music arises from, just speaks mountains to my applesauce.

Weird, I know, but still perfectly normal.
