In Part 2 of our first episode we're going to look at the process of deploying a new desktop pool and entitling users in both VMware View and Citrix XenDesktop. In the first part we looked at the steps necessary to prepare an image for deployment. It's recommended that if you've not yet viewed Part 1 you go back and do so now.
XenDesktop Express is just for evaluation, they must put out a ver. with 5 and more VM's and provisioning so small companies can start using and then upgrade to paid version.
There is a "free floating" VMware View version in the net, and ESX 4.1 so you can try for yourself, my test lab was done in less ten 2 hrs.

Citrix tech. is far superior at the moment, PCoIP is not as good solution and the installation is more costly, min. 1 srv for VD's , 1 for Conection Srv., Active Dir. and the price go up and up... But i guess PCoIP will dominate because of the leading position of VMWare, they will "persuade" the big players to use their shit.
Citrix must F them - release XenDesktop in a free version :) with a lot of well documented API and dev. tools so a community can be build around it.

PCoIP is not a solution for WANs, ICA/HDX is. The overall user experience with the Citrix suite is by far superior to VMware. These videos are about as fair and balanced as Fox News.

Thanks for this! Yeah it's bad enough that you have to deal with the issues of building a golden image. I rather keep things simple. As long as the streaming with ica and pcopip are comparable then view is what I go with. Deploy and go!

ok I have to admin that PCoIP is cool....a huge step in the right direction. As good as HDX3D? I personally think Xendesktop is superior but it comes down to perception (Vmware being the virtualisation benchmark by the masses)

Ehm..get your FACTS strait...In Vmware view 4 you can also use Teradici PCoIP protocol(both software and hardware with teradici's zero client) instead of RDP to connect to a VM.
In addition: The same Teradici's zero client can be used(using vmware view as a connection broker) to connect to a physical machine if you want to do heavy 3d applications. So yes, and yes.

This review is totally based on ease of deployment - maybe if you compare the features people would see Xendesktop wiping the floor with VMview.
Vmview works of RDP - have you ever tried watching a movie file using this?! With Xendesktop it uses ICA with speedscreen technology. Watching a video is a smooth and seamless experience.
Does VMware have HDX 3d technology?? Can you do heavy 3d applications like Autocad?? No??!
For features Citrix owns the roost by far - FACT.
