He was born in Berlin-Spandau as Rolf Rippert and died in Frankfurt am Main.
His father was born in Bad Liebenwerda (Brandenburg/Germany) and his mother was from Bydgoszcz (Poland) (until 1920 Bromberg/Germany). He was not Russian. His voice was great!

i don't urnderstand a single word,but it remainds me of my childhood,as a friend of my father sang for me russian songs. i still love the voice of IVAN REBROFF . this song he had performed give me strength to make my life go on. a cirkle had closed now. i'm so thanfull for his music

His "russian origin" must be very distant, because my russian wife can tell you his russian is FAR from perfect. She can hardly understand his words...try to listen to Boris Shtokolov - now there's a true russian singer, and he is far superior to Rebrov... muuha14
