Oh, also, I think the logic of the Inukshuk protecting against Nanuk is because they were used as food caches, thus reducing the smells of delicious food that might attract a polar bear.
This can be especially fun with a group of RPGers if you have a session run short or get cancelled or whatever, since people can really get into character during the bidding ("I am such a great hunter, that if I lead the hunt, we will return in 6 days with 8 deer!"), the dooming, and in attempting to persuade people to join you in dooming or hunting. It can be played straight as well, of course.
The stone statue is called an Inukshuk. The inuksuk may have been used for navigation, as a point of reference, a marker for hunting grounds, or as a food cache. Old Canadian Heritage commercials used to tell of them being used as a marker that "someone was here" kinda markers.
I _love_ this game!! It is a huge fun social game, especially once people get into it and you start to beg people to go on hunts or threaten them if they do.

I don't have real party games, nor do I ever get any more than 8 players, so I think I might pick this one up.

Interesting game, probably won't make my collection due to needing at least 5 players.

Great review Tom. The game looks like a lot of fun with a large group, and as a big Liar's Dice fan it really appeals to me.
