Video Librarian Magazine Review 2010 -- 3 Stars Out Of 4 -
In this two-disc set, silver-haired
certified fitness instructor and
strength trainer Blanche Black
provides helpful advice for
seniors on how toprevent falls,
while also demonstrating an
exercise program that, among
other benefits, improves
balance. The first disc features
the title program, FALL
PREVENTION AT HOME, in which
Black works with a middle-aged
Man and his mother to improve
the home environment with an
aim toward preventing or mini-
mizing spills, pointing out
various hazards, including raised
door sills, rugs that slip on hard
floors, and poor lighting, while
also providing good safety tips,
such as adding a bell to a pet's
collar to help signify its location,
using cordless phones in various
rooms of the house, and per-
forming simple construction im-
provements in potential problem
areas such as the bathroom.
And when a tumble happens?
Black wisely suggests that the
person "crumble" into the fall
Instead of stiffing and bracing.
On the second Disc, CHAIR
FITNESS VOLUME #3, Black
presents a chair workout, be-
ginning with deep breathing
and gentle stretching moves
to warn up muscles, before
gradually progressing to easy,
low-impact exercises that
should be accessible to
most seniors.
Recommended.
