Dona Dona is an old Yiddish song, quite popular, lyrics by Aaron Zeitlin (thanks to KameaMedia for the information!).
We sang it in both Yiddish (me) and English (My Friend C., who also plays the guitar much better than I do :-)). The English lyrics:

On a wagon bound for market
There's a calf with a mournful eye.
High above him there's a swallow
Winging swiftly through the sky.

Truth is it is not a very old song.; I think 1940. Because Yiddish is such an old language, I think many ppl automatically think that any Yiddish songs are also very old. Most Yiddish speakers were murdered during WWII and so, Yiddish could easily had been lost but that is FORTUNATELY not the case. It is still the mother language of religious Ashkenazi Jews and is making a come back among secular ppl as well, and not only Jewish ppl are showing interest.

was ich noch fragen wollte: ich habe die yiddishe version damlas im schulchor gesungen und das ist schon einige zeit her, und ich finde die noten nicht mehr - hättet ihr vielleicht den text für mich? weil die noten hab ich - bei der englischen version
