A sod hut, easy using the materials that can be found in the surroundings. Sometimes the Sámi herdsmen still use them, or they set up a "Goathe" -- a lightweight tent- at the edge of a lake.
Sámi used to live in a "Sijdda". A number of families shared an area where they fished, hunted or kept reindeer. The head of the family usually decided who got which piece of land and water.
The Sámi museum Ajtte in Jokkmokk tells extensive stories on the history and ups and downs of the people of the sun and the wind. The encounters with the civilised world, the culture, their spiritual life, but especially the daily things from a time not too long ago.
New colonists pull into the country looking for a lot for little, but it does not work like that. The stories from Sámi legends show a not so inviting welcome.
The Sámi museum also clearly shows what is going on and wrong with the environment. Easy to go out and look for yourself.
