-Clip 3-
The Real Richard Nixon
Vol. 2: "Pat"
Interview with Frank Gannon
In this interview/documentary segment, President Richard Nixon discusses the Checker's Speech during his so-called "Fund Crisis" of 1952, especially his reaction to the speech and crisis ("a traumatic experience"). He also more generally discusses his wife Pat Nixon's reaction to his 1952 Vice Presidential campaign as the running mate of Dwight Eisenhower.
The video clip comes from 38 hours of interviews that Nixon did with Frank Gannon in 1983 during eight days of interviews spread out over several months. Gannon used to work for Nixon and was well acquainted with the former president. Subsequently, Nixon is more at ease and open here than in most of his recorded interviews.
Originally there here had been no clear intention to create a documentary on Pat Nixon when the interviews took place. The segments on Pat came from different days, originally interspersed among a variety of topics.
@somersetdc Wow, you liberals really all sound the same.

A $9000 coat??? By today's standards that's a ridiculous amount...I can only imagine how ridiculous that must have been by 1940s and 1950s standards.

Tricky Dick always was a liar. He was accused of taking a $10k bribe. Nixon submitted his income tax return and said "see, where is the bribe money?...it's not on my tax return." WTF!! People don't list illegal bribes on their income tax returns. No one wanted to take the stupid dog away from his kids and no one cared about his wife's coat either.
As bad as he was, Nixon was a small time criminal compared to Reagan and the Bushes. He also murdered millions of Vietnamese for nothing.
