sorry i still disagree. if you have enough skill to pull off a flashy kick and you wanna use it in a fight do it. im not saying your gonna btwist someone to the floor. its been said that in tricking the most practical moves are the begginer ones. so there you go, but i say if your 540 kicks are relle good, and high and powerful, and you think one day you could pull it off sparring some one. do it.
I dont know why people have to be so damn complicated. Look, i used to do TKD, for 5 years, and yes, i learned various kicks and flips but there is also the "competition" side. It is impractical to use flips and pretty kicks in compo's. Basically, theres a demo side of martial arts and theres competing.
Bah, we all have our experiences. Ive been practising martial arts for more than half my life (12 years) and I have seen people of all types. Many unfortunately fit within the stereotype. For myself, I practise both traditional arts and modern ones so I understand you.
that is just a stereotype completely. im in karete and TKD, and there is no flowery stuff in it, sure kung fu has that stuff, but the "flowery kicks" are mostly for show and movies, martial arts stuff can be just as practicle as MMA. concidering before martial arts i couldnt fight at all, and now nobody will challange me.
You guys are all right. Im just kinda annoyed at the bastardization of chinese kung-fu and the proliferation of mcdojos. Also, the over-emphasis on the "art" aspect creates a movement of extremization within the martial arts community; here you have on one side MMA guys that have no art and other with flowery kicks and embrodered fists.
i have been doing tkd for 10 years and i could do the kick at 0.14
