This could quite possibly be the best story told in music you will ever hear!
Red Army Blues is a track from The Waterboys 1985 "A Pagan Place" album. Its is a first-person narrative of the deepest thoughts of a young Soviet soldier in World War II who fights for mother Russia but is sent to the Gulag by Stalin along with many other soldiers.
I used to listen to this song all the time when I was younger I cannot describe it in a way that will do it justice.
I think songs like this can help you to really get a feel for the true tragedy of war and the effect it can have on the individual.
This track will move you emotionally. If it doesnt move you then I am sorry my friend...you have no soul!
Please read the lyrics and listen to the amazingly passionate vocals and music. It will send shivers down your spine

@martinpollard67 It was definitely his "sacks" (which contained his civilian clothes and other personal effects) that he swapped for his uniform. A sax is not something that a Soviet teenager would've had in 1941.
