Estes Saturn V

My Estes Saturn V, modified to fly with the nozzles in place, as it's much more realistic looking that way. However, it's much heavier than when it's built stock, so I only fly it on Aerotech E18-4 or F24-4 RMS motors.

The escape tower got wrecked on the first launch, which is why it's missing here.

This was at a NOVAAR launch that I attended with a couple of other NARHAMS folks.

Estes made a mistake its really the Apollo 1 throwout 17 and the first Apollo AKA Saturn 5 was launched in 1967 and the door never opened and the astronauts did in a tragic fire. and then with the Apollo 13 the astronauts went to space but the was a explosion in the oxygen tanks and the rocket was leaking with oxygen and then c02 started to come in tho the rocket and they did not have enough oxygen but later on they fixed the problem and they came back the earth but they never went to the moon

Actually, the Apollo 1 fire (resulting in the deaths of Grissom, Chaffee and White) happened during a launch rehearsal, not during a launch; also the rocket was a Saturn 1B, not a Saturn V.

Technically the Estes Saturn V represents no actual flight vehicle... the real V's didn't have the air scoops that Estes molded into the S1C stage wraps, and only the first couple of V's had 8 ullage rockets; later LV's had 4, then none (ullage rockets were found to be unnecessary.)

GREAT Launch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!­! I hear Estes is re-releasing this kit this summer ('09) for the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission to the moon.

I'm kinda hoping Estes doesn't re-release this kit. I have two unopened 30th anniversary kits that I bought 10 years ago, I'm hoping they will be worth a small fortune some day. ;-)

Didja use engine deployment? I don't recall ever seeing a more perfect deployment of a Saturn in terms of zero vertical velocity. Could not possibly have been better. That's cheating if you are using electronics, y'know. You're supposed to rip out shock cord mounts and tear chutes like the rest of us.

Yes, it used the Aerotech ejection charge.

I've had good results from the 24mm RMS motors, but the SU motors that I have tried have all been garbage. I lost a beautifully finished V-2 (white sands #2) scale model, because an E15-4 SU motor had about a 10 second delay, and ejected 1/4 second before impact.

Can you do a demo video on Reloading the Aerotech E18-4 or F24-4 RMS motors ???

Can you also do a video explaning how you modified your Saturn V to fly with the nozzles in place ???

it was a good launch. but really the Saturn v only goes about 1000 to 3000 feet maybe. im not to sure
