I'm 46 years old and I was severely physically and mentally abused by my older brother who is mentally ill. I suffered beatings almost daily. My parents always ignored my cries for help. Family members knew about it... teachers knew about it... school counselors knew about it (this was the late 1960s and 1970s. I still suffer from the after effects. To parents and caregivers: Don't call this sibling rivalry! This is vicious! Wake up! Protect your children from their siblings!
I am one of 6 children. I have Asperger's, I was molested by my stepfather. I ended up in a shelter where I was molested by a detective at age 16. I am now 37, my siblings still all ignore me, our Mother recently died from Cancer, they call me crazy, they have threatened to fight me. They are acting out the Abuser Role now, I was once told, "they don't treat you right"...they learned from Mommy that "Jenny" was worthless. I stand now against all Bully actions, I say "Grow a Heart"
I survived this.I can't remember how many times my older has bashed my head in.He really screwed me up but were better now i guess and now his ex wife pretty much verbal abuses him and he got kicked out and he can barely afford his rent.
i survived it barely... still surviving it. my brother still treats me like dirt. doesnt believe i deserve any respect.and after he publicly insulted me today i demanded respect,he told me to F-Off and later removed me from facebook contacts. All i can think is good riddance. 19 years i survived physical and verbal abuse from him. NO ONE came to my defense. my mom just allowed it. i honestly dont care if ever speak to him again.
Scary to think that what parents consider "horsing around" is actually considered sibling abuse. Very informational video. I hope people pay attention.
The first step in changing behavior is to build awareness. You did a great job of defining and giving examples of abuse. Also you let individuals know where to go for help if they want it which you did with the website and hotline info. Excellent PSA!
this information is a helpful resorce and points out what abuse really is. Many of us are misinformed as to what abuse really is. What is considered sibling riverly may really be abuse and should not be overlooked by parents or teachers or family and friends. We all have a responsabilty to the children.
