A northern Ohio police officer died after apparently exchanging gunfire with a suspect, who was wounded in the shooting early Saturday morning and was flown to a hospital as authorities began sorting out what happened and why.
Sandusky police Officer Andrew Dunn had stopped the suspect, 50-year-old Kevin Randleman of Sandusky, as Randleman was riding a bicycle, and the shooting followed around 3 a.m., the Erie County Sheriff's Office said.
Dunn, who was wearing a bulletproof vest, was not responding to a call and had initiated the stop on his own, Sheriff's Capt. Paul Sigsworth told the Sandusky Register.
