Considered the first love song of Modern China, and also one of the Worlds ten best classical love songs recognized by the United Nations, transported into Space as the human races quest for life in the Universe, originated from the province of Sichuan in the late 1930s, unclear as to who has composed it to this date, this song is also known as 跑马溜溜的山上 (The Galloping Horse Hill). From late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China, a horse race was held on Lunar May 13 every year for a 3-day public holiday. Typical in this song, as in most other folk songs from this locality, it is based on the melody of 溜溜, as in 溜溜调. The two identical characters have no special meaning. Thus, for people who know Chinese, 跑马溜溜的山上 is the same as 跑马的山上.
