SelectPlusOpposition Leader Pulls Out of Zimbabwe ElectionOpposition Leader Pulls Out of Zimbabwe ElectionThe Associated PressOpposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai pulled out of Zimbabwe's violence-wracked presidential runoff, declaring that the election was no longer credible and the loss of life among his supporters was simply too high. (June 23)The presidential runoff in Zimbabwe has been violent and now, the opposition leader says he wants nothing to do with it.Morgan Tsvangari (svahn-gah-REYE) says the election is no longer credible and lists a number of reasons why it has become too dangerous.SOT: Morgan Tsvangari, Opposition Leader: "One, the police have been reduced to be bystanders while ZANU-PF militia commit crimes against humanity, carrying out various acts from rape, torture, murder, arson, abduction and other atrocities. Two, ZANU-PF militia dressed in army regalia have been deployed to spearhead the terror campaign in the rural and urban areas. Armed ZANU-PF youths are waging a terror campaign, and have vowed that the MDC will not rule the country, even if it wins."The withdrawal came as no surprise to African election observers.SOT: Marwick Khumalo, Head of Pan African Parliament Observer Mission: "The announcement by the president of the MDC was not something unexpected. You would actually expect that to happen, particularly considering the fact that the violence was not on the decrease, if anything it was escalating."The country's imformation minister says the vote will go ahead as scheduled in accordance with the Constitution. He says it is an election of the people of Zimbabwe against Britain and America. The government has called Tsvangari a puppet of western powers and has done little to stop the violence. The U.N. Secretary general issued a blunt condemnation of Mugabe's government. And Britain says enough is enough.SOT: Gordon Brown, British Prime Minister: "This is a criminal cabal that is operating and there will be sanctions from the international community unless the violence stops."The announcement means Robert Mugabe has a clear road to stay in power. His 28-year rule has led to criticism from even his loyal allies. They accuse Mugabe of becoming a despot and bankrupting Zimbabwe. ___ ___, The Associated Press

  • The British should take Rhodesia back, they were better off under our management. Brown you are pathetic, full of hot air and meaningless words. Any coward can make idle denouncements, it takes bollocks too take action and you dont have any.

This is what you get when you let black people rule a country. The only successful country in black Africa is South Africa and they have a ruling white population.

  • International community my ass! Why do African leaders not come forward and say something against mogabe?? They all sit there like fools watching mugabe showing Africa as a hopeless continent. Africans have to learn to deal with things themselves instead of waiting for the US, Britin or France to come help them. Its all the African's fault for not coming out strongly against mogabe when he started his shit.

  • Mugabe is trying to use Tsvangirai to deceive international community. Mugabe pretends that he has loosen the grip, so that through Tsvangirai IMF gives him more money to steal.

Return stolen properties back to the rightful owners then get some help in return, not before!

This is the good test for Tsvangirai. If he accommodates, if he calms down after having been included into the ruling elite, then he is just another corrupt official, not a true representative of the Zimbabwean people.

  • Zimbabwe has a population of 12.3m - with an estimated 1.8m living with HIV/Aids. Largely as a result of this, the country has the lowest life expectancy in the world.

According to WHO figures, men can expect to live to 37 years, and women only 34.

  • arrest him god dam man his a fucking wanka

  • Nelson Mandela also rejected Mugabe and his tyrant ways no black man can accuse him of being a white lapdog. Zanu pf the brainwashed fools will.

Modernisation does not mean westernisation intelligent people can tell the difference.

  • Fricasoft your argument is floored mugabe and his army went to the congo and carved up the diamond resources for themselves. Stop being a hypocrite. Where so you think Mugabe is banking his cash (where the highest interest rate is). Not in Zimbabwe. Look at Botswana as a beacon of leadership light.

  • Power to Africans, NOT THE UK OR US. stop supporting leaders who still our resources and give it to you and penalize those who stand up for their people, how many tyrans are in Africa today supported by your gov. just because they will give you people backdoor resources, which makes the tyrans richer and the common Africans poorer. If you people care much about Africa tell your gov. to send back billion of fraud cash banked by African leaders after stealing from their own country
