Shotokan Karate of America - Countdown to Nisei Week - Heian Shodan

There are only 6 weeks until the 2009 Nisei Week Shotokan Karate Exhibition and Tournament!

To count down to this exciting event at Cal Tech, we will be uploading a new video each week with the kata performed at last year's exhibition and tournament.

To kick things off with the first video is the Maryknoll Shotokan Karate Club demonstrating the kata Heian Shodan.

This is not shotokan as most of us know it...it is a totally different group and method of training...from their basics on, it does not resemble JKA or other groups. They believe they are practicing it correctly. I believe this is the Oshima method.
