thumbs up if you hunt

I don't envy your having to drag that monster back to camp.

@moviegeek2 Isn't it a little dangerous hunting with a high powered rifle in low light conditions? Just sayin'...

the guts being in it all night didn't hurt it at all. It was delicious actually. I am not sure just how long you can leave them but, many many times, it is impossible or unwise to try a retrieval right away. Sometimes they need to bleed out and you will drive them if you look too soon. Many times after a night hunt we have to wait until morning, other wise we might ruin the signs of where he went

I know, it was a poor night for scent, light rain that night. That also made tracking it impossible, especially in the dark. I had it scored a while back. I made the Nova Scotia record book with 144 5/8 Gross 8 pointer. A score of 140 is required to make the NS book. Its a lot easier to make the book with a 10 pointer than with an 8

a few years back I shot a small buck, 4 point at night near the same spot. I left it one hour while I went to get a four wheeler to retrieve it. The coyotes ate both hind quarters and part of the back straps. I didn't salvage much.

Judging from the damage on the way to the body, I would have expected a bigger animal.. Not that I have any experience

the damage wasn't caused by the animal, but rather by nature. a wind storm has destroyed the softwoods on the ridge
