Just got around to removing the muffler on my cummins. It had a 4inch turbo-back magnaflow exhaust with a muffler. Now its straight piped with a 6 inch tip as well.
@Crazybuickdriver to be honest the 24v can be just as reliable as the 12v, a buddy i tow with has the 24v (nice truck btw) and it has more miles than my 12v. the record miles for a 24v is 1.6 million and counting (diesel tech magazine or one like it) and the record for a 12v is 2.1 milion (same source), given that the 12v is much older i am sure that the 24v will eventually catch up. the 6sp is what i would go for, if price is your problem then stick with the 24v, no one wants sell 12valves
@yougot90hot yea my plan was to beef up the torque converter and put a 4" MBRP exhaust on it. This truck (1999 24V) i found only has 230k on it, interior looks new all origional. and a friendly diesel tech also said to up the T-Line on it. but mostly it will be a highway truck occasionally pulling a goosenech horse trailer or my Jeep on a Flatbed..
@Crazybuickdriver otttt64 is right- the killer dowel pin and the steering- but im sure you already knew that. i have 592xxx miles on mine. replaced the steering twice already. not bad since the last thing that broke was a taillight in the past 200xxx miles :). if i were you i wouldnt bother with the auto. the guys i tow with have had ALOT if problems with the stock tranny and torque converter. my advice is raise the line pressure and get a ats tq conv and you should have no problems out of it.:)
love the sound of that turbo! im lookin at getting a 12v cummins (1998) ext cab long bed, automatic (would prefer 5spd, but price is right lol) anything to watch for on these cummins?
the motor was really cold..
