This takes me back to my father in laws funeral, A scoucer he called a spade a spade. This was one of his a favourite songs, he was good singer he often sang it in Pubs when he had had a few. Service over congregation about to leave . His 4 fours sons rose from their seats at the front near the coffin and without music sang this. Congregation stopped turned and all joined in, it was very emotional. RIP George you did it your way Amen

when I applauded her for the last time at BRIGHTON DOME, ENGLAND in 1990 a week before her 75th birthday I reflected that we were unlikely to see her like again.I still treasure some letters I received fom her. Sadly she appeared to be her own worst enemy.I wish all of the available footage could be combined onto a DVD,also the live recording made in Glasgow in I think 1974 which was`lost` could be traced and issued, not to mention her show `Old rowley` could be produced.

Thanks for posting the single its FABULOUS I agree Dorothy is underated and deserves a much higher profile. I spoke to Dot many times in the 90s on the phone a generous warm hearted person in spite of her troubles.

top posting many thanks ,,
Top post Mike, this version doesn't get heard enough these days. Paul Anka really hit the jackpot when he made this song available for other artists to record - timeless!

@YCSMusic Yes a great version . Strange but true - Dorothy Squires & Frank Sinatra were both born in 1915 and charted with this song in 1969/1970 when they were aged about 55 .
