By 1990, operation of the Bulawayo to Victoria Falls overnight sleeper was in the hands of Diesels for the largest part of the journey to Thompson Junction. Generally speaking, the loco change was un-photographed by many as it took place in the small hours of the morning. By chance this particular day it was running about three to four hours late, arriving at TJ just as the sun was rising... nobody batted an eyelid. The train arrived behind a very 'chuggy' GE, and left behind a fire-breathing 15th class Garratt. Thompson Junction shed can be picked out by the 'anvil' smoke cloud hanging over it as the Garratt backs into the station.

  • Great opportunist video capture. 406 is still around, but sadly now outside Bulawayo Steam Shed with grass growing through it.....
