In this clip you can see every man in Longstreets Corp making their way to the battle that became known as Picketts Charge.
The attack on the Unionist troops was unsuccessful and the defeat suffered by the Rebels was one from which they never psychologicaly recovered.
If the rebel army had taken the wall and defeated the unionist troops, there was nothing to stop them marching on Washington. The C.S.A (The Confederate States of America), would be a very different place today.
Myself and my friend Ian, flew to the States on July 3rd to take part in the 145th anniversary re-enactment of the Battle of Gettysburg. We were hosted by the re-enactors of the 8th Virginia regiment who showed us what true, southern hospitality is all about.
Thanks to all the men and women connected to the 8th Virginia, you made it the experience of a lifetime.
I've seen where you can order civil war uniforms but not the officers swords? Any ideas where i can

The awesome Confederate lines!!! It was impressive to look forward and backwards for as far as you could see the long grey lines! I was in the 63rd Tenn. Longstreet's corp

There were forts around Baltimore, and heavy fortifications around Washington. I'm not sure the "clear path all the way to DC" line often heard is all that accurate.
