Aria RUGGIERO
**********
Sta nell'Ircana pietrosa tana
tigre sdegnosa, e incerta pende,
se parte, o attende il cacciator.

Dal teso strale guardar si vuole;
ma poi la prole lascia in periglio.
Freme e l'assale desio di sangue,
pietà del figlio; poi vince amor.
**********
In a stony lair in Hyrcania, there lurks
an angry tigress; she hesitates, uncertain
whether to flee or await the hunter.

She longs to save herself from the arrow's thrust
but this would leave her offspring undefended.
She shudders and is assailed both by lust for blood
and fear for her young, but love triumphs.

  • Thanks for posting this and the other clips from the show. I was a there on the 13th

This number was one of the highlights of the evening - the only one with the horns. Nobody motors like Handel.

  • Wooooo! I had heard that Monica Bacelli had been the star of the piece... that was a great performance..... even though this is a Carson production it is somewhat static... it leaves the singers somewhat naked... Bacelli really is exceptional here and makes up for the lack of stage craft.

  • Strange, exciting voice...

  • ...and our hero scampers off to slay that tiger.

I hardly ever hear about Monica Bacelli. Now why is that??? She is wonderful!

  • The word that comes to mind is 'pyrotechnics'

    Fabulous, thanks for posting

  • Stunning! Thanks for posting! Must have been a bi-och gettin that in the theatre and gettin away with it - but unfortunately, not every singer or conductor/orchestra records their productions, so that's where guys like you come in!

  • Excellent!!!
