@heavyboxes We were talking about compulsion - I mentioned it in my first post to which you responded. You also stated that "it's stupid not wear a helmet". There are many instances where a safety device might reduce injuries but people do not consider it rational to use that safety device at all times. Would you wear a life vest when you go swimming in the ocean? No, it would be an irrational action, because the risk of needing it is so low, even though it MIGHT save your life.

"... just because a safety device can reduce injuries doesn't mean it is rational to use it" - totally wrong, a safety device reducing injuries is the point of a safety device. it's what makes it rational to use. it's what justifies it. maybe you need to check those words in a dictionary.
And WHY are you still talking about car helmets?
