  • Wait, where's the tutorial for the pattern??

  • As an experienced lace knitter who works many forms of lace from Shetland to Estonian and Hungarian i agree about the loss of video. However, the video does illustrate to difference between sewn on and picked up edging.

The provisional cast on (also known as invisible cast on) is no different to a normal cast on. You use a contrast colour so that you can unpick it when you come to pick up the loops between the stitchs. This is a little difficult to understand at first, but easy when tried.

  • I agree with Whimsy, I was eagerly watching the video as Nancy Bush was casting on for the shawl. the cast on went on until end of the first video. Expecting that the second video will continue the pattern, but alas, she only speaks and no tutorial. I was really upset, what a waste of time.

  • how do you do a purl in a stitch and kepe the previous YO open?

  • yeah, it's a ploy to get you to go buy the book/dvd

I too don't live in the US

anyway, she was about to show the provisional cast on.

basically you cast on with a hook & waste , smooth yarn over the needle to give you stitches and you can undo/remove it at the end.

just search provisional cast on with crochet hook and you'll see - easy when you know how - hard to describe LOL

  • Interweave put this up as an "advertisement" for their DVD. This video otherwise is useless....as the other comment says, Nancy is about to show something then it cuts off. I'm sorry that I bought this book last year, as they have now come out with the book bundled with this DVD. I won't be in a hurry to purchase from Interweave again.

  • What is the point of this? Just as she is about to show something, the video ends... I don't live in the US, so I can't access the PBS show. Grrr
