Markeaton Park is a wonderful public park in the City of Derby, Derbyshre, UK.
Markeaton Park was created in the 1770s by William Emes of Bowbridge Fields, it was part of a large private estate for the Mundys (a well known Derby family).
Sixteen acres of the park were given to the council in 1929 when the owner died. The land was donated on the understanding that it must be put to some use for the benefit of the citizens of Derby.
If you were left shivering after watching this then I have achieved my goal. I wanted to capture the bitterness of winter in my video.
Here in this video I have used a selection of my photographs from 28th and 29th December 2005.
It does not really snow like it used to as I remember as a child in the 1980s, back then you would get drifts of snow a few feet deep every winter and it seemed to last for weeks. Back then all you wanted to do was goto Rykneld Rec and slide down that large hill on anything you could get hold of.
These days you are lucky if it snows for more than a few hours and its all gone within a day or so.
For a interactive Birds eye view of the area I filmed use this link :

If you enjoyed my show then please leave some comments about it. I hope to make videos for the two remaining seasons in time so keep an eye out for those too.
