http://www.pbs.org/independentlens/lioness/ They went to Iraq as cooks, clerks and mechanics and returned a year later as part of America's first generation of female combat veterans. In LIONESS, Directors Meg McLagan and Daria Sommers give an intimate look at war through the eyes of women and the U.S. military policy that bans them from combat.

In this clip, at a Team Lioness reunion, the women discover that they are absent from media coverage of a battle in which they fought.

LIONESS premieres Thursday, November 13 on INDEPENDENT LENS, a weekly series airing on PBS. Hosted by Terrence Howard, the acclaimed series showcases powerful and innovative independent films. Presented by ITVS, INDEPENDENT LENS is broadcast on PBS stations nationwide. Visit the Web site for more: http://www.pbs.org/independentlens/lioness/

  • WTH???

Why haven't we heard about these POWERFUL women???

  • I have talked to women in the military! No genetics doesn't always take precedence, get your facts straight. Especially in branches like the MC, women have to do all of the same things as the men do. Don't argue or reply unless you have solid evidence to work with, not just some falacious "genetics" argument.

  • why do they think they require special mention.....if ur a marine just do ur job

  • @ChildrnOfTheDust To make it through WestPoint you need to be sound in academics and be driven to succeed. The four year experience makes civilian college look pretty easy. Sorry to kill that point.

  • This is what happens when you lower the requirements for getting into the military. I can't believe the PC straight jacket we are living in right now. These women to less work but want equal credit. Stats show that the majority of women claiming to be in combat situations never fired a shot at an enemy combatant but receive the same medical benefits that their male counterparts do.

  • Your are not very bright.

  • Of course you know that they don't. They went lax on the requirements to get into the military. Now even someone like you can join.

  • That's not all that fair though because the only requirement that you need to make it through West Point is that you can breathe. Have you worked with any west pointers? Did you deploy? Are in the Military?

  • Really women have combat MOS's I thought they weren't allowed to fight.

  • When I saw the title of this film, Lioness, I was expecting to see how women in our military have had to cope in this new era of non-defined frontlines. Where a goodwill school visit could result in a ambush. This pathetic drivel is a major disservice to the courageous women who serve our armed forces. I can hear the critics of women serving aboard ships and elsewhere mockingly saying "Told ya that this was no place for women. Bring all the women reporters, camera operators etc home as well.

  • Its funny, you can't tell the story of the first women in combat as something to be proud of, something about how well they performed despite setbacks, no it has to be about victims and victimizers, the poor women and the eville(tm) Bushitler administration, designated villain of the left wing fearmongers everywhere. Good job of making people who we should be proud of look like a bunch of victims! Go team Left wing hate mongers!

  • Why don't you actually watch the movie asshole and maybe try talking to WOMEN who have actually fought in combat like the ones I know! Guys at West Point are irrelevant to this topic! The point is that regardless of BT standards, these women are already doing this stuff on the front lines! Hello? And our gov't needs to step up and either pull them out, or give them the real combat training that they need!
