From May/June 2008 edition of Basin Today:
For about 10 minutes, the boardroom at Basin Electric turned into an auction yard. One head was up for bid. And Mike Eggl, senior vice president of External Relations and Communications, wanted all the safety equipment available used as he got his head shaved. "Okay folks. Gimme a $10,000 start," bellowed Mark Wald, Basin Electric employee and part-time auctioneer, to laughs. "Five thousand, then. $5,000!" More chuckles. But this St. Baldrick's event was about to raise more money than most of the crowd dreamed possible. "I gotta-one-hundred-dollar-bill-now two-give-me-a-two-hundred-dollar-bill now-three..." And within seconds the bidding was up past $1,000. "Going once, $1,100 twice, $1,100 a third time. Sold for $1,075 to Mr. Ron Harper!" Basin Electric CEO and General Manager Ron Harper stepped up with the clippers. At the count of three, Harper took a nice swath down the middle of Eggl's noggin. "I'll pay $1,100 to leave it like that!" somebody yelled from the crowd. But Harper continued his work. And soon, Eggl ceremoniously replaced the leprechaun hat he was wearing earlier. Eggl matched the high bid, doubling the contribution for the missing hair on his head. The first thing that ran through Eggl's head the next morning? "Honestly? I kinda like my hair. I wouldn't mind seeing it back. But it's for a good cause, so I don't mind doing this at all."
