Alexander Pirogov sings "I Have Attained the Highest Power" from Boris Godunov (Mussorgsky)
From: VAI DVD 4253 Boris Godunov
Mussorgskys masterpiece is given the full cinematic treatment in this 1954 film. Few stage productions could begin to emulate the sheer vastness of this production highlighted by the gripping performance of Alexander Piragov in the title role. It has been said that the real protagonist of Boris Godunov is the Russian people and they are given full rein in some of the awesome crowd scenes reminiscent of Eisensteins best work. Ivan Kozlovsky appears as The Simpleton; Vassily Nebolsin conducts the Orchestra and Chorus of the Bolshoi Opera.
108 minutes, Color, Mono.

Интересно, что Пирогов крестится по-католически, слева направо. Это забавно.

Pirogov was the greatest Boris after Chaliapin. His performance in this film is magnificent. His mad scene is terrifying, heartbreaking, beautiful beyond belief.
VAI, thank you.
