Profile of Irene Dalis - Up until her retirement in 1977, she was the principal artist at New York's Metropolitan Opera for 20 consecutive seasons. She founded the Opera San Jose and is currently its general director.
Irene Dalis, Regina Resnick, and jean madeira were three of the greatest ever to grace the met roster. None was given their due. Dalis was an especially wide ranging artist setting the standard for roles as diverse as Kundry and Ortrud to say nothing of her Amme, Deliah and Lady Macbeth, and Santuzza. I always thought she was a dramatic soprano--This said she sang what she sang--Where is her like to be found to day. No Where
I remember her well. She was a horrid witch, what a nasty person.
