Eric Obermann, a 24-year-old man with ALS, his parents and sister ask the public to join The Association's Walk to Defeat ALS® and defeat ALS together. They deliver their message while contrasting images of how Obermann appeared as a teenager and his present condition, using a wheelchair and breathing with the assistance of a ventilator, flash across the screen.

  • My mother died of ALS. She was 67. My God, he's so young. We have to find a cure.

  • Like, he's just a youngster. We need to do something for him. Oh, baby!

  • Eric passed away on 8/10/2010, at age 28. He had no head injuries, no health issues, no drugs, and was not a Veteran. He just was unlucky enough to get ALS at age 20. It can happen to anyone. He fought the disease for 8 years, even attended college at Georgia Tech during the early stages. He will be missed. Especially by his family and friends. I am his father.

  • I just read he died at the age of 28 last year.

  • I'm also 24, and that would really suck. o.o

  • Thank you to this family for sharing your journey.

  • and i thought dystonia is bad..this is just wrong on so many levels

  • Did he have some kind of head injury that triggered it?

  • I just sad my prayers go out this young man and his family.

  • I know cancer is bad and all....but ALS makes it look like a cake walk.
