This old Japanese song was released in 1949, which was only 4 years after the end of WWII.
Japan had surrendered unconditionally to the Allied Powers and suffered many casualties (3 million people killed) and much destruction, but at that time a movie entitled "Aoi Sanmyaku" describing young people was made and this tune as its theme song helped people to have hope for the future and a positive attitude to life.
So this song is a very unforgettable masterpiece to us, while having a cheery rhythm and goodwill lyrics, despite having a somewhat melancholic feeling.
"Aoi Sanmyaku" means "Blue Mountain Ranges"
And this title implies a famous phrase of an old Chinese poem, "Though a country be sundered, hills and rivers endure."
