Yet another attempt at making a video on my own. This is an translation of Stiller (Quieter / More quiet) with Wir sind Helden.

*) The three dots in parenthesis means that it is something we don't hear. What she actually sings is this: "... zeigte sich mir -" In German they sometimes have reversed word order which means, the verb comes before the subject. This is the case in this particular sentence, which directly translated would sound like this: "... showed before me...". So we don't hear what the subject of this sentence is. The point of this sentence is actually ruined because of the differences between English and German grammar.
**) This is a pun on the two German words for "to grasp" and "to comprehend" ("zu greifen" and "zu begreifen"). Words are pretty similar (just like "to stand" (zu stehen) and "to understand" (zu verstehen) were earlier in the song).
If you understood anything of what I just wrote then you're a friggin' grammar geek!

  • Ich glaube, in Strophe 2 müsste es am Anfang 'I try to explain myself to the world' für 'Ich versuche, mich der Welt zu erklären'. Ansonsten: Säckeweise Hut ab, das war bestimmt ein Haufen Arbeit.

  • @Niuell Danke für den Hinweis. Ich hab es jetzt korrigiert. Es freut mich, dass Du meine Arbeit mit der Übersetzung schätzt ^^

  • how do you say understood in german

    ?

  • It depends on who you are talking to/about and what tense you are using. But if you were to say "he understood", it would translate to "er verstand".

  • really good!

i think, this is even interesting for germans. so cool, really :)

  • On the first slide it should be "The words can't find me" instead of "I can't find the words" ...

Apart from that, good translation, Danke!
