  • Hi,ive gt a patterdale and he was 6 in november we also have a jack russell aswell whos the same age,was gonna ask for some help as ive always had trouble with the patterdale on walks because his constantly pulling (the dog goes like he could pull a Tank) and he will pull for miles i cant let him off because he trys to attack other peoples dogs. The thing is that his a good dog indoors (he knows sit,lay down, come, move, and when to go on alert when i make a certain sound)

  • That's interesting to know. Patter certainly has a strong pull already, though he's only little. I'm working on getting him to heel, and he does it indoors for a couple of yards, but outside - too many distractions at the moment. I guess it needs constant work and repetition. And liberal application of treats at the right moment.

  • Oh also is yours a Nuttal breed?

  • I don't know what Nuttal is. Patter is half Patterdale (hence the name) and half JR.

  • Nuttall is named after the person who bred them to what they are today.

Brian Nuttall has more than 50 years of experience working and maintaining this breed. His grandfather was a gamekeeper and bred working terriers. Brian's own strain of terrier started with dogs from his grandfather, and later as with many of the great strains some of the legendary Breay Buck strain was introduced. Cyril Breay and Franck Buck have had some of the biggest impact on the modern Patterdale Terrier.

  • Ah, well I have no information on ancestry, and the breeder I got him from was deaf, so I didn't ask for too much information from him :)

  • Lol :D you plan on using him for any hunting?

  • Yeh ive noticed its also scents he will follow scents the whole walk,so i started walking him in the middle of back roads where no cars or grass was and he pulled a little less,id definatly say to get him nuetered because they become over dominant.

  • Our Jack russell on the other hand is as good as gold can walk off the lead anywhere and shes gentle with everything (even cats). What am i doing rong?

  • SO super cute!! yay. precious little guy.
