Wow, melbourne when it was still ''marvelous''! This footage is brilliant, I can't understand why any Australian wants to move to a republic. Nearly 60 years of devoted service, an apolical figure who embodies our past and gives us hope for the future, she symbolises all that is good. God Save The Queen.

@walford70 Dad spent months preparing to shoot this footage .... I'm sure he would have been delighted that people can enjoy his work, documenting some of Australian history. This was the first time a reigning Monarch had ever visited Australia, so he knew it was important. Brand new FJ Holdens driving down the street, the old trams and buildings .... the rarest part is that it's all in colour ... putting sound on it was hard in those days too. Might have a go myself some day.

Great film that captures a piece of history. Have you though of sending a copy to Australia's National Archives? That would ensure it is preserved.

Correct. Thought it would be interesting anyway. Desparately trying to archive 20,000 ft of film my old man shot on 16mm, before it decays.
