This is a second spider, which was possibly mating with the male that I found. Both spiders were not far from each other when I found them in the water. I filmed the male first which is in another video. So after seeing him do this, I decided to pick her up and see if she would do the same. Sure enough, she did. These jumping spiders seem to have a higher intelligence than other species of spiders. I never knew spiders would do this. Learn something new everyday.

  • she is literally using you for a towel. the only other animals i've seen towel themselves off like that are birds and dogs

  • @badbobbyhughes I have seen cats and dogs do this, but I never knew birds did this.

  • do you keep these spiders? :3

  • @irongirder1 Some of them I keep for a little while, then I'll them go. If they are ones that are not skittish, I'll keep them, but the fraidy ones I let go since they will stress out and they are really hard to record on video. The ones that are at ease are very easy to video.

  • I don't understand how you can keep a spider as a pet. Not to say that it's wrong or anything, I'm just wondering how it works. I know you have to feed them and whatnot but do they show any loyalty or anything? What's to stop them from scurrying off if you have them out and aren't paying attention? It's not like a dog or a cat that can show that it likes you, or do you have it just because you like spiders?

  • @sasbub The spider in this video was released a few days after this video. He mated with the female that I recorded drying herself. Both are back in the wild and I released around 150 babies that the female had. But I do like spiders, and have run across 4 that were so much like a real pet. They showed no fear and never showed any aggressive behavior. Some get so used to me, and will even go into a state of rest on my hand. I call it spider sleep when they do this.

  • Awww...so cute!

  • I'm fairly certain that you're awesome.

  • 5:27 Just realized you were filming her haha

  • i cant stand spiders all of them i hate but i absolutley love jumping spiders. Their like the teddy bears of the spider world! OCHI COOCHI GOOOOOO!!!!

  • @Skyewinge Because not everybody is arachnophobic, and some find them very fascinating. Learning about them helps to alleviate fears, by the way. Fear of spiders is very largely irrational, especially this kind of spider.

  • *shiver of fear* WHYYY would you have a pet spider? i just do not grasp this concept...

  • she thinks she's people!

  • Awww she's rubbing herself dry. cx

  • I love spiders. I also love our cat Lucky. Unfortunately, though Lucky has befriended squirrels, birds and some other cats and dogs - he draws the line at rodents and smaller creatures - like spiders. So I rescue and release them from our condo before he can eat them.

  • I've only "played with", I mean handled the little gray jumping spiders... all the jumping spiders are adorable, but this one is so cute as she dries herself!
