thanks, mabus, for the excellent series...being a Lost fan yourself, I'm betting you know the significance of "mabus"...chilling....thumbs up on the videos!
This video kind of encapsulates the one thing I don't think Damon really gets when it comes to the mythology. They mention they'll reveal how Locke is in the wheelchair, and then Jimmy correctly conveys sentiment - "Who cares" and that's when Damon goes into a spiel how people find out an answer and don't care. Well seriously, doesn't he get it? While interesting, the answer to why Sawyer carries that letter is about 1/100th gratifying as finding out the meaning of the smoke or island.
Well there's a fine line between character mythology and story mythos. If we had never found out about why Locke was in that wheelchair, fans would of bitched to kingdom come. Without knowing the meaning behind the wheelchair or Sawyer's letter, these characters wouldn't have been as interesting or filled with so much depth. I think fans tend to forget that this is a character show as much as it's a giant mythology.
