Hey guys, I'm awfully sorry that it has been so long since I last put up a video, it's been pretty crazy in my neck of the woods. Hopefully I'll be able to consistently continue putting up videos now that school is over for me.

This video is all about the importance of taking a big breath not only to last a long time through a passage of music, but also so that your sound is more rich and confident. Thanks for watching and make sure to rate comment and subscribe!

  • Hey man, great playing and good advice. Just a quick note, I don't know exactly what effect you're going for with the cutting in and out of video every second or two, but it's a little much, at least for me. Kinda throws me off. Know what I'm saying? Like when you are talking and you cut out the downtime between sentences by cutting the video. It seems to me like that's used sometimes with Internet bloggers and stuff. But it seems a little excessive. Good stuff otherwise!

  • @tysheetstrumpet Thanks so much for your comment. It's definitely something that has occurred to me from the very beginning. The raw video tends to be about 10 minutes long with a quite a few "umm's" and "err's." It is an effort to cut down on the dead airspace. Could use some refining. Thanks for your very constructive criticism!

  • Hey there! Just wanted to let you know that the first lick in "summon the heroes" isnt slurred! so if you really want anyone to actually get anything from this video then you should at least play it right! btw we are playing that piece at school this week with Allen Vizzutti. You should come check it out and hear how it sounds when played correctly :) and your intro to all your videos suck!! that also goes with your tone quality. your tone quality = painful to listen too!! times a million :) thx

  • @theregoesmypony365 Ouch! You don't mince your words, do you? But I appreciate all comments, constructive or not.

What school do you go to? If it's close I'll come give you a listen. What chair are you? (so I know where to look for you).

Also, please say hello to Allen for me if you talk with him (from Jonathan from Hannaford - he'll know who I am). I had the privilege of performing with him in Toronto this past year. He's a great player and an even better person. You're in for a real treat!

  • hi, what is the mouthpiece that you use to play the trumpet, which brand and model? what is your trumpet? very good your sound.

  • @Jeftrompeteiro I play on a Vincent Bach 3C, and my trumpet is a ML bore Bach Stradivarius. Thank you very much for the compliment!

    Regards,

    Jon

it´s the secret of playing trumpet

  • @theregoesmypony365 .. ....before you go spouting off as you did (sarcastic or otherwise) you may want to put up or shut up....you say he should "at least play it right" but you obviously don't know how to either, as you didn't offer any insight....as to your school playing this (USC?), John had the privilege of playing together with Allen Vizzutt as the winner of Hannaford Street Silver Band Rising Stars comepetition, 2010.....

  • One hint from my side - try breathing into your stomach instead of your chest. Use the power of your midriff (as if you'd be laughing) to make difficult scale jumps.
