i read an interview with mike in a guitar magazine and he said,"dylan told me to stop playing all that b.b. king shit and come play rock n' roll on my album".

i studied his licks on the first paul butterfield album. and there were licks o' plenty, too. like roy buchanan's 'second album'. dylan and mike turned folk music into rock n' roll on dylan's albums from 65'. they went live with it at the newport folk festival, where it met with mixed results. contrary to popular belief, the folk purists who were 'booing' were doing so more because of the poor sound of their equipment as opposed to feeling that dylan had betrayed them.
