Back when stations had public service obligations, local talk programs such as WSBK/Boston's "Daytime" were part of the daily mix. They were a magnet for most every celebrity and book author who passed through town. This clip contains a few opens and closes that were recorded off-air in June 1982.

At the end is an open to a 1986 Boston Red Sox broadcast.

  • Is that production music TV38 used or was that something from the Weather Report catalog I'm not familiar with?

  • @manofdef

The name of the tune is "Wizard Island." It is available from iTunes.

  • Now that WLVI-TV has lost the CW affiliation, CBS announced today that they would affiliate WSBK with The CW as of August 29, 2011.

  • I interned at the station in 1984. Alison was very patient with me as I was doing a dual internship with the New Ehrlich Theatre in Boston at the time. I appreciate her so much for that. She was a stunning lady and a real joy to work for.

  • TV38 was awesome when it came to local programming before selling out to UPN. Great to hear the golden pipes of Dana Hersey on the disclaimer.

  • What year did Daytime end and how long did it run?

  • @gregnugget I agree. I have a couple CNN bits on VHS from the early 90's and even then there were no stupid graphics filling up half the screen.

  • I remember watching this program when I was only 13-14 years old. Alison was so beautiful. Thanks for posting!

  • These are a great series of clips. First, fashion and hairstyles of 1982 are clearly on display. Second, TV was a lot simpler (and better) then. No silly graphics on the bottom of the screen to tell the viewer what they are hearing and watching. (Think Today Show). Bring back public service requirements for the public airways! And more clips!!

  • is this the answer to daytime on channel 5 or good day ??
