Thank you for putting it in to perspective. I actually knew James Arthur Ray, and ooh boy, could I ever tell you some stories!! A Huge Phoney, LIAR, Womanizer, and Coke Head! At a church seminar, (where he was to scam folks into buying his materials, etc.) he was BADLY stoned on coke (not unusual)... and I told him not to go on, somehow he pulled it off. I have the video and photos! Biggest "scam artist" ever. Never cared about anyone but his bank account!

why dont you just leave things that belong to native people alone and you wont have this

I do not feel so sorry for the idiots that followed this Con Man James Arthur Ray and died in a Sweat Lodge Ceremony. I feel sorry for their Families who have to pick up the pieces.
.
James Arthur Ray promised better careers, more money, success, influence with people, and a selfish Self Centered way to expand ones life. The people who died wanted MORE MORE MORE out of life instead of being happy with what they had. ERGO...they died for their own GREED of "getting ahead".
Sad and pathetic.

Also, fact: there is no scientific proof whatsoever that Indians were ever or are genetically "weaker" than any other collection of humans. There is no universally accepted definition of "weaker" in a genetic sense. Whether you survive or not depends upon how lucky you are to be born into an environment in which you are a minority or a majority specimen.
I have Biotechnology (AS), Chemical Engineering (BChE), and Math (PhD, MS) degrees.

First of all, there is no such thing as sacred ways. There is no proof whatsoever that a bunch of mindless rituals that people pull out of their asses has any special meaning or power than any other random set of rituals I could pull out of my ass.
That fact remains unchanged no matter what culture or what era of history one is in.
Atheism is the only sensible position.

but all the churches do...
Sad and tragic. New Age wants to absorb other culture's knowledge, but gets it all wrong. These things are not about self-improvement in that sense. In a traditional Native American context, nobody is considered worth more for doing ascetic religious practices. It is wrong and irresponsible to discourage people from leaving a sweat lodge when they are unwell. Putting 10,000 bucks on the table and want to become whatever in ten days is wrong. Sweat lodges are a place of prayer, not shopping.
