Maintaining Classroom Discipline (1947). Good and bad methods of disciplining inappropriate classsroom behavior. This was a very well made instructional movie for teachers. While there are new & different problems in the modern schools, the basic ideas of this film still holds. The opening messages are exactly what the best research on classroom behaviour tells us:
1. The vast majority of behaviour problems in the classrom involve minor breaches of discipline.
2. These incidents originate in the classroom situation itself and are within the control of the teacher.
3. Disciplinary problems in the classroom are symptoms of underlying weaknesses in total learning situation. BY CONTRASTING METHODS OF HANDLING THE SAME CLASS, TECHNIQUES ARE SHOWN FOR SECURING CLASS DISCIPLINE and STIMULATING THE INTEREST OF STUDENTS.Producer: McGraw-Hill Films; Creative Commons license: Public Domain.

however is outdated because it doesn't reflect students we deal with now. Peer pressure, drugs, teen pregnancy, spoiled, lack of respect from the public, etc. are the relevant issues today.

That's because the media doesn't cover shootings involving blacks. 1) because whites get far higher ratings (why for example white females in murder trials get years of TV coverage) 2) political correctness 3) because they occur at such a high rate that it would get old in about month. Do you understand that the vast majority of gun violence in the US is committed by blacks? When MSNBC shows the number of ppl shot to death something like 80 + % of that is blacks who've killed other blacks.

These are good tips for teachers, but if there are no consequences for acting up, kids are going to do it at most schools.

I teach gymnastics to kids of many different ages and I have learned these basic elements to teaching any subject matter are essential. It doesn't matter the age or the era, children will react to the same primal emotions and stimuli. I have seen others instruct and loose respect and then control of their classes while I tend to maintain a greater sense of mutual understanding and my curriculum runs much more smoothly.

I just got out of high school last year and... I've never seen peer pressure in my entire life, I've never seen a hard drug addict, etc. "Spoiled" is a goofy term because it's relative. I'm spoiled because I have drinking water and that's a problem? Also, "the public" doesn't deserve respect just for being an entity. If you're going to bad mouth students in public, why should they have respect for you? Kids also disrespect high schools because... wait for it... they're torture.
