Rescue 117 is a dedicated 24hr Irish Coast Guard Helicopter SAR unit based in Waterford Airport, which provides invaluable Search & Rescue cover along the South & South-East Coasts of Ireland.
In March 2010, the Irish Government attempted to reduce this service to a 'daylight only' operation, endangering the lives of thousands of seafarers....
Due to an unprecedented backlash and huge support from the public, they were forced to reconsider - resulting in a guaranteed 24hr Service until 2023.
