i've found playing it in EADGBD gives a nice droney effect, including the high E string in most of the chords. at least that's what it sounds like he does on the record. and i believe it would have been a whole step down, capo 5. good job btw.

It's standard tuning. Capo on 5th, tuned down a half step is how Elliott recorded it, if I remember correctly.
If I had it over again, I'd cover it however with capo on 3rd fret, tuned down a half step and just sing the entire song in the same octave as the second verse. Makes it much easier to sing, for me anyway. I have trouble with the low notes.
